The mother of this boy had sputum smear-positive tuberculosis. Her son presented with multiple subcutaneous abscesses, some of which were opened here to establish the diagnosis: acid-fast bacilli were found in the pus. Despite the dissemination, the boy was systemically remarkably well (no apparent weight loss can be noted).
