Sputum disposal was of major concern in sanatoria and various methods and tools were developed to address the problem, culminating perhaps in what was called the "Blaue Heinrich" ("the blue Henry"), a receptacle of metal that could be autoclaved. This one was found in a sanatorium in Finland slated for demolition.
