Thioacetazone was one of the first fully synthesized anti-tuberculosis drugs developed.  Thioacetazone became a very cheap alternative to para-amino salicylic acid and was widely used in many parts of the world and particularly in Africa.

The recommended dosage is 2.5 mg/kg body weight daily. Intermittent treatment is not recommended.
