Despite the concerns that BCG as a live vaccine might cause an increased frequency of serious complications in HIV infected children, this has not been confirmed and difficult to demonstrate. This non-comparative study from South Africa nevertheless suggest that disseminated BCG disease might be more frequent among HIV-infected infants than among infants without HIV infection.
