..., but at an early stage in tuberculous meningitis polynuclear predominance might also be seen before more characteristically the cell distribution becomes predominated by mononuclear cells.

The table below that photographs shows that the change might happen within just a few days. Cerebrospinal fluid findings in tuberculous meningitis are typically a white-cell count with 500 to 2,000 cells with a mono-nuclear predominance, high protein and low sugar.  In this patient, the initial presentation was with a low white cell count, and a polynuclear predominance.  Observation over three days showed an inversal of the type of white cells predominating to the more characteristic presentation.
