A large number of retrospective studies has been carried out for the assessment of the effectiveness of BCG to protect against hematogenously spread complications of tuberculosis, particularly miliary tuberculosis and meningeal tuberculosis.
The results are very clearly indicating a considerable protection by BCG against these forms. In the majority of the studies protection was in excess of 80 per cent.
