The findings form the British BCG trial are in substantial contrast from those seen in the Chingleput trial. In the United Kingdom, BCG was given to adolescents and protection against tuberculosis observed in young adulthood. It is the only well-designed trial where BCG gave high protection against tuberculosis in adults (around 80 per cent). In this trial protection lasted for over 10 years and then dropped off rapidly.
