If we summarize thus the work of these three great men and the exemplary BCG trials of the British Medical Research Coucil:
1) Andvord observes that childhood experience of tuberculosis predicts adult experience
2) Canetti observes that it is not only primary infection that leads in later years to reactivation, but that indeed most primary infections become sterile and a large proportion of adult tuberculosis is the result of reinfections.
3) Koch notes that a primary infection is commonly accopmpanied by little tissue destruction, but reifection leads to violent tissue necrosis.
4) The British Medical Research Council notes that BCG afforde a conintued high protection against tuberculosis from BCG vaccination for about ten years, and then all protection disappeared almost completed within just five years. |
