An example from Norway at a time when the risk of becoming and being infected with M tuberculosis was very large shows the large differences between a predominanatly rural (farmers) and a predominantly urban (working class) population: at the age of 20 years, almost 90 per cent of the working class had accumulated a prior infection while only about 30 per cent of the farmer population of the same age had.
