Adjusted for the small differences in the prevalence of infection, the male-to-female ratio clearly shows that males have a smaller risk of tuberculosis than females across most age groups. Or, conversely, women of the age 20 to 24 years have a more than 20% higher risk of tuberculosis than men if they are infected with M. tuberculosis.
