it is thus clear from the previous why tuberculosis moves up in the age structure of the population if the epidemiologic situation improves: each cohort is born into a situation with a diminishing risk of becoming infected and the prevalence of infection in the age pyramid (see slide on the prevalence of infection in Europe) is moving as the cohorts are aging, and the incidence of disease is is going with it.
