Mutants resistant to drug A will be killed by drug B. However, if drug A is given and taken in sub-inhibitory concentrations, there will be some suppression of growth of bacilli susceptible to drug A but none of bacilli resistant to drug A. At the end of the cycle, mutants resistant to drug A will have gained an advantage.
