One of the main problems with the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis are adverse drug events, mostly gastrointestinal such as vomiting, attributed mostly to the thioamide. In this setting, these events were so frequent and often so severe that patients refused continuation of treatment and absconded from it. The thioamide was found to be an efficacious drug that nevetheless led to ineffectiveness of the regimen. Succcesively, a reduction of this adverse drug event was achieved, treatment completion increased, and the outcome became more favorable.
