Whether these mutations have affected the protective efficacy of BCG is still a matter of debate. In fact, the evidence is rather thin, and one exception is this study from Hong Kong that suggests that the Paris strain might be more efficacious than the Glaxo strain. However, how much this really matters is difficult to judge and one should note that the setting providing evidence for a high fprotection, the United Kingdom, actually used the Glaxo strain, and the setting with the most dismal evidence with no protection, Chingleput, used both the Glaxo and the Paris strains.
