Persons with tuberculosis that remitted spontaneously leaving fibrotic scars have a high risk of developing tuberculosis again. The efficacy of one year preventive therapy with isoniazid gave high protection in The Union trial, intermediate protection in the United States Public Health Service trial and low protection in a trial in New York. Two trials were reported among patients on hemodialysis and silicosis respectively and in both the protection was less than 50 per cent.
