Because of the ethical dilemmas in conducting placebo-controlled trials, equivalence studies using isoniazid as the control and rifampicin-containing regimens of shorter duration were carried out. Rifampicin of shorter duration was expectedly of similar efficacy as longer durations of isoniazid.
